TechWatchAlert
Fleet and cloud

Google Cloud

Compute Engine VMs and their software, read from the VM Manager OS Config inventory.

What the connector does

The Google Cloud connector reads, project by project, Compute Engine VMs and the OS inventory collected by VM Manager (OS Config), with a service account that only has the “Compute Viewer” and “OS Config Inventory Viewer” roles. Nothing is started, stopped or changed.

What comes into TechWatchAlert

  • Each VM in the fleet: name, zone, OS, IP addresses
  • Linux packages, Windows applications and updates collected by VM Manager
  • VMs without OS Config inventory, flagged and kept in the fleet without software
  • Up to 20 projects read per connector

Setup

  1. In each project, enable the Compute Engine and OS Config APIs, and VM Manager OS inventory on the VMs
  2. Create a service account with the “Compute Viewer” and “OS Config Inventory Viewer” roles, then a JSON key
  3. In TechWatchAlert, enter the project IDs and paste the JSON key
